VINTAGE LANTERN SLIDE Saint John Vianney of Ars 3.25X4IN  HAND TINTED
Saint John Vianney (Jean Baptiste-Marie Vianney) was born on May 8, 1786 to Matthieu Vianney and Marie Beluze. He died on August 4, 1859 at age 73 in Ars, France. He was a French parish priest in the Catholic Church and also the patron saint of all priests. He was ordained priest by Mgr. Simon, Bishop of Grenoble, on August 13, 1815. In 1818, John Vianney was made parish priest of Ars, a small village not very far from Lyons. It was here in this remote hamlet that as the "cur d'Ars" he became known throughout France and the world. While in Ars, he founded an orphanage for girls called "The Providence" with Catherine Lassagne and Benedicta Lardet. It became the model of similar institutions established later all over France. In 1925, Pope Pius XI canonized him. His feast day is August 4th. Today his incorruptible body lies at the main altar in the Basilica of Ars. Don't miss when you are in Ars!
