"ON THE COVER: A girls face seems to look through a lens system from an enlarger in this picture of a print, reproduced here in both negative and positive forms. Evelyn Hofer made the photograph by removing the light-distributing condenser lens unit from her Omega enlarger and placing it over a portrait of the girl and aiming her camera directly down through the condenser. The corrugated ring is part of the lens mount, and the bright spots highlighting the surface of the lens are reflections of windows in the studio."
